Hi Bill,

Would you be willing to come and cover a mini course on curse-breaking as part of career orientation this year? I think the younger students especially should stand to gain from having an expert deliver a chat, and I can imagine those of us who unfortunately remember Umbridge's contributions to this whole charade three years ago would rather hear from someone who doing the job than a leaflet.

I'm sure Headmistress McGonnagall can offer some sort of compensation, and also for what it's worth, I'd be eternally grateful.

So, I must warn you (simply because my track record is making messes of things) but I've made the decision to go into the curse-breaking profession.

After all of the experience I've had with the cursed vaults (and getting into plenty of trouble at school), I was advised that I should play to my strengths. At this time, I plan to seek a Mastery in Ancient Ruins and Arithmancy but sort of figured I should seek out someone who has been this route already.

So, do you have any suggestions or tips? I would love to meet you over coffee or drinks sometime. Charlie tells me that you've been keeping busy.

History of Magic certainly felt different once you've lived through actual history.

War has a tendency to interrupt one's schooling, and seventh year was a sham anyhow, so they've gone back to finish out their NEWTs — and Professor Binns stands at the front of the room droning on, because apparently some things are unchanging as the tides. For Luna, her father's recently released from Azkaban, their home is still being rebuilt, and Hogwarts— still doesn't feel right. The faculty scrubbed out the blood over the summer and put the rubble back together, but the place simply doesn't feel the same anymore. The energy is off. This year is a formality.

And Luna's focus is scattershot even at the best of times, so she finds her gaze straying to the window, the rolling hills outside. She chose this, and yet it's hard to concentrate — the room has been made larger to accommodate this oversized class, seventh and now-eighth years combined, but it's still stuffy.

Her attention wanders to Harry beside her. Her foot snakes out; bumps against his ankle, a slight summoning of his attention, even as her quick fingers work on folding a piece of paper into some kind of complicated origami.

How's your break been? Sorry about the gardening magazine, Professor Slughorn wanted me to read an article in it, but the whole thing is quite poorly written and a bit daft (turn to page 48 for a laugh). He does enjoy his wide array of questionably talented favourite students.

My sister's got a vile boyfriend with an earwax issue. I don't know if she hasn't noticed (how could you not?) or if she's too polite or keen on him to say so, it's quite odd on multiple levels. I'm meant to go to a barbeque where he'll be, but I expect I'll leave early to get a start on my Ancient Runes homework. Do your sisters ever make you as befuddled?

Have you spent time with that individual we don't talk about often during the break?

I hope you write soon, the most exciting thing that's happened this break is my parents making me stay up late to play Bridge.
