Pass the mandrake root next, please. [As she stirs the cauldron, it does cross her mind - perhaps unkindly - that Potions class is a lot easier, and a lot more interesting, when you don't feel berated, judged or bullied by the professor.]

[ Looking between the open page in the textbook, Hermione, and the seemingly perpetually kind and serene face of Horace Slughorn - who was definitely the best Potions Master Neville had ever had the pleasure of working with - he almost missed her request.

Neville caught himself and grabbed for the mandrake handing it over. ] I hope I've chopped it finely enough this time.

[ Getting praised over something he's done in Potions is a bit of a new thing for Neville, which explains the boyish grin that breaks out over his face, pleased and relieved that he hadn't botched the mandrake.

Watching her sneeze, Neville was already moving towards the cauldron when she offered him the task of stirring, glad to be of service. ]

Truth be told, they've been partnered up in Potions so many times over the years that by now she associates the bubbling of cauldrons with him.
