New Beginnings

It wasn't that Auradon hadn't worked out. It was that staying in a school with your ex, and his friends that were his friends before you, and with everyone blaming you for ruining the supposedly proposal that was coming was just not the ideal situation. Not for Mal. Not for any of them.

Thankfully Belle hadn't been willing to return them to the Isle, and Ben had begged them to stay, but in the end Belle had contacted another school. One that might be more suiting to them. So the four had packed up their things, been sent magically to another realm and found themselves standing on platform 9 and 3/4, waiting on a train.

Aboard the train the boys had quickly found the candy trolley and eaten themselves into nearly a sugar coma. Mal had waited and watched as they unloaded with the other students. They were older than most, and coming in a few weeks after the year had started. There was talk of sorting and that was a flurry of a talking hat, and a bearded wizard who treated them with bright smiles and offers of lemon drops.

Being told they would be in different houses was interesting, helpful and scary. They would learn more that way, but they would also need to find a place, somewhere to meet. Which was why Mal had grabbed Evie's hand and set out about the castle.

"Well, this is different." Gone was the bright sun, the brilliance of Auradon traded for the Scotland storms. Mal rather liked it, if she were to be honest. More her.

Evie was pretty sure that she felt every emotion she was capable of having since returning to Auradon from the Isle and now... here. She had been so surprised when Mal broke up with Ben and almost upset at first, honestly thinking that they would be hurried off back to the Isle. A place she had sworn Ben to never do to her if she helped him bring Mal back to school. She had never wanted to return there, not after finally accepting and becoming a person she liked being. When Belle told him they didn't have to go back there and they could be sent to another school? She was elated!

And it meant the four of them could stick together like the band of thieves they were. Which was even better if you asked her. She was a bundle of nerves as they got closer to the school and when she was sorted into a different house than Mal, Carlos or Jay? Well that was just not fair! Especially since she wouldn't be sharing a room with Mal anymore! She misses Doug of course. He was simply adorable and probably the first guy (other than Carlos and Jay) to see her as someone else under the masks.

When Mal grabbed her hand and set off to explore their new home, Evie laughed and walked with her, giving the girls hand a squeeze. "Much different. I think this will suit us much better," she said. Hoping that it would. At least the kids wouldn't be judging them based on what their parents did. That was something!

"I will miss sharing a room with you."

Evie hummed thoughtfully and nodded in agreement. This was true. They would get information from every, what they called House, at this school. From what she could tell, from just the small amount of interaction they had so far, there were some school rivalries. She was absolutely fascinated by the history of this place! This whole wand thing? Was definitely something the four of them would have to get used to. Carlos and Jay especially. Where they were from? It wasn't something you just did. From what she could tell, it was the norm.

"True. Though, I'm not sure if it's something they chose specifically," she said thoughtfully, releasing Mal's hand to loop her arm through the other girl's. "An actual magic hat chose our houses." Evie almost had an excited tone to her voice. They had experienced magic of course but this was so much different!

She nodded. "Where there's a way, there's us. We'll have the perfect place. Though, it may take a little longer... just look at this place!"

Evie turned to look at Mal and smiled. "We'll never truly be apart," she agreed. Not after the Isle and this trip to this realm.

Evie had finally decided to follow in her own footsteps and while she may have to conform to those bland and unflattering robes while in classes, you can bet she would take every opportunity she could to be in her preferred blues. She was thankful that her house colors leant themselves to those blues. The only one of them that didn't fit the mold was Carlos. Imagining Carlos in that god awful yellow still made her laugh, not able to help hold it back. "Carlos in that yellow," she said, just to explain her sudden laugh.

"No, I think they have other things in this realm that they're dealing with and it's not some villains children vouched by Queen Belle of Auradon," she said with a smile, looking at Mal. She hoped her first instincts in this were correct. This realm had more magic than theirs did! "Which is completely different than where we just came from." She was glad Mal wouldn't be losing that part of herself. She worked too hard to be who she wanted to be. Or, at the very least, recognizing who she wanted to be.

"A tiny bit," Evie said with a laugh, listening to it reverberating off the walls.

Evie's hands tightened around Mal's. "Forever," she agreed before releasing her hands and giving the other girl a hug.

"So let's see where this hallway takes us. If it's some place cool, we'll bring Carlos and Jay with us next time." If they could remember where it was next time! This play was so much bigger than Auradon Prep. While she knew she was capable of magic, the only magic she had ever done had been with Mal. She was excited to see what she could actually do on her own. Not to mention all of the information and knowledge they could learn!

These uniforms were the worst, they had no shape, no color other than the tie! How could these kids even stand it for ten months out of the year? Evie would absolutely add a touch of each of them to their uniforms - especially to Carlos'.

Evie couldn't keep the grin from her mouth as she listened to Mal and laughed again. "He did. Out of all of us, the absolute worst. Just for him, I'll add a hint of red to his uniform." Some place no one else would notice other than the four of them.

She had always admired the way Mal thought and felt a bigger grin spread over her mouth. "They're putting no faith in us whatsoever," she said with a laugh. "Which means there is so much more we can get away with." It was how it always was. Especially when they first went to Auradon Prep. Evie pressed a quick kiss to the girl's cheek before looping her arm through Mal's again.

Evie nodded and smiled, thinking of their faces when they were told they were getting wands. As for her? "Are you kidding? I am so excited! I always thought that I was capable of magic but other than the one or two things I've done with you, I was sure that was the limit of it. But now? Actually LEARNING magic? And that library!" She had been so excited when she had actually gotten a wand and when she had stepped into that library? It was beyond the library back at Auradon Prep that was for sure!

Evie considered that for a moment. "We will not be painting images on our robes. No, I will work on making each of our robes fashionably ours - not that tacky black," she said with a little scrunch of her nose. "Much like I planned for Carlos." They would figure it out. She would make sure they were more most fashion forward of the other students at this school.

She grinned at the tone in Mal's voice. "Absolutely," she purred, "I cannot wait to get started."

They had to find a spot that they could make theirs. Surely it couldn't be that hard in a large castle like this.

Evie smiled and watched her best friend with a fond look. "Thank you, I only hope I can be as strong as you," she teased her. "Well, first things first - we need to find a spot that we can make ours. Then, I can drag you to the library with me." Clearly she had her priorities right.
