oops i got excited

It is blissfully nice. He doesn't want to change a thing.
When they'd first talked about this, taking a little break together instead of going back home, he'd been -- not sceptical, unsure? Uncertain? He hadn't thought it possible. It was only Lily with her calm, cool, practical way and easy assurances that convinced him otherwise. He's still a little nervous, this is new, and exciting, but a trip to the seaside with his girlfriend wouldn't kill anyone.
Merlin, his girlfriend.
Remus turns his head a little, cheek brushing flame hair. There's plenty of people on the deck with him, but he doesn't raise his voice to be heard, they're close enough together that he doesn't need to. )
I think the beach is the next stop. Do you want to get off?

Of course! Why else would we go to the seaside?
[ Just because she was ginger did not mean that Lily Evans was the sort who would shy away from the beach. Of course, the hat that was resting in her lap beneath her book was about as massive as her sunglasses were, but she had no concerns about turning into a lobster after messing about at the water's edge for too long.
Lily reached across Remus, kissing his cheek as she pulled the cord to signal to the driver that someone wanted to get off the bus.
When the time came the bus had barely stopped before Lily was on her feet, bouncing excitedly on the balls of her feet as she slung her bag over her shoulder, sticking her sunglasses back on before leading the way off the bus and onto the shoreline. ]

Over there?
( He has beach towels and sandwiches in a bag he'd charmed, later he'll buy them both chips, and ice-cream, and it will be a date. It's a bubbling nervousness, nice but still exciting. He takes a deep breath, filling his lungs with salt. )
I love that smell. I think I'd like to live by the sea. Somewhere you can hear it. Though I could do without seagulls.

Shifting to walk closer to him, as they'd been doing after-hours all term while making rounds, she cast a sideways glance in his direction and met his eye with a grin. While she knew she did her fair share of smiling at him like an idiot, it stood to reason that anyone who had managed to catch the attention of the smartest, most handsome bloke at school would have a lot to smile stupidly about.
Besides, what else was a girl supposed to do on holiday but enjoy it? ]
I'm not sure if you can have the sea without the gulls.
[ Letting his hand go when they reached their spot Lily smiled towards the water before dropping her bag in the sand, followed by her hat so that she could pull her shirt off, continuing her thought as she stripped down to her bathing suit. ]
Though, if you and I really do travel the world once school's through, I suppose we could check every bit of coast we come across until we find you the perfect one.
[ Pushing her hair back over her shoulder she fixed her sunglasses and smiled at him again. ]
Anyway, last one in is king of the wankers. [ The words came out abruptly and then she was off, dashing towards the sea. ]

Repulsive? Scarred? Awkward?
No. Only good thoughts. Remus abandons his belongings and jogs down to the shoreline, cursing softly at the first cold lapping of water over his feet. )
I'm abdicating.
( A smile, even as he wades further in. )
The monarchy's a farce.

That he was more dressed was lost on Lily, who was too focused on being glad to be there, to worry about shirts. ]
Under other circumstances, I'd say once a wanker always a wanker, but–
[ Lily paused, reaching up to comb her fingers through his hair, her nose wrinkling gently in amusement. ]
I suppose you're alright.
[ Catching his hand in hers Lily waded out slowly, looking up and down the coast. ]
What do you reckon the chances are that we miss the last bus home and have to camp somewhere down the coast? Just hypothetically.
[ She had already told her parents she was spending the night at Marlene's, like a criminal mastermind, or a teenager. ]

If the bus even comes. It might not be up to us. ( It wouldn't even be a terrible lie. Public transport can be pernickety at the best of times, and no one would have to know they'd dawdled entirely. In the same easy, faked conversational tone, one that is far too innocent. ) The weather's nice. I heard it'd be clear all night.
( His pulse kicks up entirely, but his straight face is still studious and serene. No shenanigans here, no sir. He would never. )
I'll check the timetable later.

Tents pack down quite small as well, which is a good thing, buses being what they are this far down the coast.
[ It wasn't that she had planned this, it was just that she had considered it weightily enough to be aware that she was likely to just blurt it out anyway. It had just been better to prepare for this contingency, and perhaps her prudence would be important. Should they miss the last bus home, of course. ]
You don't talk in your sleep or anything odd, do you? [ The question was posed as a joke and punctuated by a series of aimless, greedy kisses to his jaw and the side of his neck. ]
